John McLaughlin: "My Production Company Is Named After My Dog"

Sit, ubu, sit (good dog). "If you want a friend in this town," Harry Truman once famously said of DC, "get a dog ." Scowly television host John McLaughlin showed -- if only for a second -- his softer side, brought out by his pet. The McLaughlin Group was talking about the Obama's dog choices for his daughters once he reaches The White House. McLaughlin suggested an odd hairless Peruvian breed. Crypto-bigot Pat Buchanan, in character, said that we needed an "American" breed of dog in the White House. Of course we do, Pat, of course we do.

Then there was a lap down memory lane of Presidential pets, including Richard Nixon's pooch ("Pat and I are still getting over ... Checkers," said the hacky Monica Crowley), and "Macaroni," Caroline Kennedy's pet pony. It was like a conversation at the local Dairy Queen, via The Saturday evening Post.

Then John McLaughlin asked Monica if the Group needed a mascot. Monica reminded the 81-year old host that he already has a dog. "My production company is named after my dog ... a Bassett Hound," Nixon's priest gushed.

Even John McLaughlin has a production company, folks.
