Pat Buchanan On President Obama

(image via msnbc)

Of course it would be foolish for any seasoned political observer to ever expect that Pat Buchanan would give the newly-minted President of the United States an even chance to gain his footing. They were blood enemies from the get-go. One cannot teach an old Klansman new crucifix. Pat Buchanan, throughout his professional career, has made it a point of not being a fan of Jews or brown people or, for that matter, immigrants -- especially immigrants. Those groups dilute his creamy, white Judeo-Christian delusion of a nation that was actually founded on Deism. Pat Buchanan wishes -- oh, how he craves and wishes -- that we could just go back to the days of Norman Rockwell paintings, before all them women's libbys and uppity Negroes, aspiring to higher stations, upsetting social stability. And because Buchanan, who despite the entreaty of His Redeemer, never had children, was not fruitful in multiplying, this perceived darkening of the White House particularly rankles. His white nation is turning beige.

In the 1970s, Buchanan lobbied then-President Ford to be appointed Ambassador to South Africa, presumably to show the Afrikaaners how to really handle their blacks! Ford, smartly, declined on the grounds that diplomacy and Pat Buchanan were incommensurable. Whew!

Buchanan, unfortunately, persists in public life. Don't ask us how. But he remains. Frankly, Buchanan ought to have been written out of civilized society when his idol, William F. Buckley, Jr. concluded, rightly, after his incendiary rhetoric leading up to the First Persian Gulf War, "I find it impossible to defend Pat Buchanan against the charge that what he did and said during the period under examination amounted to anti-Semitism, whatever it was that drove him to say and do it: most probably, an iconoclastic temperament." Most probably, perhaps, but not entirely. He writes today on Takimag:

"By reversing himself and refusing to release graphic photos of abused prisoners of war, Barack Obama has stunned liberals.

"They feel betrayed and abandoned by a president they put into office. On war and torture, at least, they thought Barack was one of them. He is not. Barack is not into ideology. He is into Barack.

"As he showed in 2008, when he threw his white grandmother under the bus and spared his beloved black pastor, the Rev. Wright, then threw Wright under the bus when his toxicity level rose too high, Barack has all the sentimentality of Michael Corleone when it comes to the family business."

Surprise! Pat Buchanan does not like President Obama. What is a surprise, though, is that Buchanan would traffic in the pedestrian "he threw his white grandmother under the bus and spared his beloved black pastor." That's just lazy, predictable pablum, Pat. And Buchanan has always been the most literary of filthy racists. What happened there? Losing steam?

Up your game, Buchanan. We are keeping close watch and crave the entertainment.
