Media-Whore D'Oeuvres

"At the Wildlife Conservation Society benefit at the Central Park Zoo last Wednesday, June 10, the main attraction was the Alison Maher Stern snow leopard exhibit, located between the koala bears and the otters. As the black tie event got under way Ms. Stern, who provided the three leopards with their new habitats, was on display by the seal pool, along with her billionaire husband, Leonard, the former owner of The Village Voice .. 'My wife would be very upset with me but I believe we're superior to every other living species in the world,' Mr. Stern said. 'We're the top of the food chain. Animals aren't as aggressive as human beings. They only kill when they have to eat.'" (Observer)

"As everyone who has followed the America’s Cup fiasco knows, it is now up to international courts to decide who shall defend what and where. The egregious Swiss billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli is the holder, and has been sued by Larry Ellison, an American sick-making, money-grubbing billionaire, whose stink pot, Rising Sun, has to be among the world’s ugliest gin palaces. Hence when word got out that the Pug’s Club regatta was to take place off the island of Ibiza last weekend, thousands of Spaniards swelled the beaches in the hope of seeing real sailing boats fight it out at sea, rather than in some dreary courtroom in San Francisco or Geneva. An added attraction was the presence of Count Leopold Bismarck, on board Bushido, who reputedly had announced his intentions to avenge the cowardly sinking of the great battleship and namesake by helping me defeat Tim Hoare’s magnificent gaff-rigged Alexa ... and Roger Taylor’s Tiger Lily, reputed to be the only schooner in the world whose owner (drummer of Queen) managed to water-ski behind." "The mother of dead rock star Michael Hutchence has reignited her feud with Sir Bob Geldof - claiming he hasn't let her see her son's only daughter for three years. Patricia Glassop, mother of the INXS singer who died in 1997, says she 'barely knows' granddaughter Tiger Lily, 12, and is afraid she might never see her again. The youngster is being raised by Sir Bob, who became her legal guardian after her mother Paul Yates, his ex wife, died of a drugs overdose in 2000. Patrica, who called Sir Bob 'Satan' two years ago, has now told Australia's Woman's Day magazine: 'I don't know what Tiger Lily's favorite colour is, what movies she likes or what fashion she's into. I don't know anything, yet she is my grandchild, my son's daughter.'" (Thisislondon)

"Our friends David Neville and Gucci Westman came to our house in Watermill with their son Dash who is the same age as our youngest, Titus. On Saturday morning we went to Gin Boswick's in East Hampton for a pool party and then we came back home and got ready for the party Rita Schrager was having at her house for Gigi Levangie Grazer's new book 'King Takes Queen.' Gigi lives in L.A. and it was definitely like a little L.A. brigade. All the women were just so glamorous and the bodies... Gigi looks like she does yoga every day for 10 hours a day. The house is all white on white, even their kitten was white. Sadly, it was raining so that was a little bit of a shame, but nobody seemed to mind. Tamara Mellon and Fern Mallis were there, and Andrew Rosen and Elie Tahari were in the same room at the same time." (WWD/Lucy Sykes Rellie)
